PDF of ESX short cuts (all this can be found at www.vmware.com) This is just my shortcut to the pages I need.

When using VMware, “near native” means just what it says.  Most Servers are less than 10% CPU and RAM usage.  So, VMware would be in most cases a good replacement for hardware.  However, Disk I/O and other factors may make VMware not a choice for some applications.

Put a case in with VMWare Tech support. There is a problem with a DLL file.

ESX Command Line
helps when Servers have large snapshots. The VI3 may time out but the command line will not.

VI3-Storage Maximums
helps with know what size disk drive one needs. Example, 1MB = 256GB, 2MB = 512GB and so on.

What works and does not work with ESX for backingup Servers.

VMware Update Manager Best Pratice

iSCSI CLI (only if you feel like good about Linux)
esxcfg-swiscsi –d disables Software iSCSI
esxcfg-swiscsi –k kills any iSCSI connections
then
vmkiscsi-tool –D –a x.x.x.x vmhba32 (where x.x.x.x is the IP address of your target).
After this returns to the prompt force a rescan with esxcfg-swiscsi –s
You should see a LUN get added. Confirm this with the command vmkiscsi-tool –l –T vmhba32
